Trauma Therapy
Support for individuals & couples to explore sex, intimacy and connection.
Talking about sex can be difficult, and many of us haven’t had spaces where we can talk openly about these parts of ourselves without judgment. Together, we can get curious about what feels good, what feels challenging, and what you would like to be different, at a pace that works for you.
There is no single way sexuality, intimacy, or relationships should look. Therapy can help you better understand yourself, communicate what you need, and create more possibility for connection and pleasure.
- Make room for honest conversations.
- Connect with what feels right for you.
- Create more possibilities for intimacy.

A place for all of who you are
We welcome people across gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, relationship structures, and ways of expressing sexuality. Our practice is queer, trans, kink, and polyamory affirming. Your relationships, desires, identities, and ways of connecting are met with openness, respect, and curiosity, without judgment or assumptions about what they should look like.
Experienced Sex Therapists
Sexuality lives at the intersection of the body, mind, relationships, and the stories we carry about ourselves. Our approach creates space to explore all of these pieces with curiosity, without reducing sexual concerns to a single cause or solution.
Grounded in the Whole Person
Sexual concerns rarely exist in isolation. They can be shaped by our relationships, histories, bodies, identities, beliefs, nervous systems, and the world around us. Our therapists bring specialized training in sexuality and relationships alongside broader clinical experience, so we can explore the whole picture rather than focusing on symptoms alone.
Common questions about therapy at Vancouver Island Sex Therapy
What is sex therapy?
Sex therapy is talk therapy that focuses on sexuality, intimacy, pleasure, desire, relationships, and the many experiences that can shape our sexual lives. Sessions may include conversation, reflection, education, mindfulness, or somatic practices,
What can I come to sex therapy for?
You don’t need to have a specific sexual “problem” to come to sex therapy. People come to us for many reasons, including changes in desire, sexual pain, difficulty experiencing pleasure, anxiety or pressure around sex, intimacy concerns, sexual shame, communication, identity exploration, sex after trauma, relationship changes, or simply wanting a more connected relationship with their sexuality.
Do I need to come with a partner?
No. Sex and relationship concerns can absolutely be explored individually. If you attend with a partner or partners, our focus shifts toward understanding the relationship, the patterns between you, and what you would like to create together.
What if I’m not sure what I want to work on yet?
That’s okay. You don’t need a diagnosis, a perfectly articulated goal, or even a clear understanding of what is happening before you reach out. Part of therapy can be slowing things down, getting curious, and figuring that out together.
What happens in the first session?
How do I know if we’re a good fit?
Finding the right therapist matters. You’re welcome to ask questions about our approach, experience, or how we might work with what is bringing you in. Therapy should feel like a space where you can be honest, curious, and increasingly comfortable being yourself.
Do I have to talk about sex right away?
No. You decide what you share and when. Talking about sexuality can feel vulnerable, and there is no expectation that you disclose everything in your first session. We can move at a pace that feels manageable and build comfort over time.
Is sex therapy only for people who are sexually active?
Not at all. Sex therapy can also be a space to explore sexuality, identity, pleasure, relationships, changes in sexual interest, decisions not to have sex, or your relationship with your body. There is no expectation that sex needs to be part of your life in any particular way.
How long are sessions?
We offer both 50-minute and 80-minute sessions. The length that works best may depend on what you’re coming in for, whether you’re attending individually or with a partner, and how much time feels useful for the work.
Do you offer in-person and virtual therapy?
Yes. We offer in-person sessions in Victoria as well as virtual therapy for eligible clients throughout British Columbia and select other parts of Canada. Availability for virtual therapy outside BC depends on the regulations where you are located.
